As the new co-directors of the Program in Critical Theory, we’re delighted to welcome you to a new year. This, the 18th year of the program, marks some major milestones for the program. The biggest and most exciting news is that our DE, the oldest and largest on campus, will hit 100 graduated students this year.  We look forward to celebrating this landmark achievement with all of you and our 86 current students, from across 25 departments.

This program is fueled by the efforts and intellect of our extraordinary cohort of students and our dedicated faculty affiliates. We now have 76 affiliates whose research and teaching continues to shape fields in the most decisive ways. We hope, with the launch of this new website, to be able to celebrate and highlight their accomplishments and to share with all of you the remarkable range of their impact on this university and far beyond.

We are also celebrating this year a return to in-person collaboration and community. After the tedium of life online the past few years, we’re looking forward to the collective project of scholarly inquiry. In addition to an exciting slate of programming and events, this year will welcome two graduate working groups and a faculty works in progress. Should you be interested in getting involved with the program and its initiatives, please be in touch. Our scholarly community extends far beyond Berkeley, to our alums and interlocutors in America and across the world. We welcome opportunities to collaborate and to showcase the vibrant intellectual community of Critical Theory here at UC Berkeley.

Warmly,

Poulomi & Sharad
