Mariagrazia De Luca joined Berkeley’s Italian Studies Department in 2018. She holds an M.A. in Italian and Comparative Literature from La Sapienza of Rome and an M.A. in English Literature from The City College of New York, CUNY. She is interested in Italian postcolonial studies, literature of migration, multilingualism, and language and desire.
Her research project focuses on non-Italian writers who embrace Italian as their literary language. In particular, she is interested in how their cross-cultural and multi-linguistic writing affects the field of Italian Studies and the Italian literary canon.
Beyond her academic work, Mariagrazia loves storytelling. She co-wrote “Sailor,” a play that debuted in NYC in August 2018.
