Established on the UC Berkeley campus in 2006, The Program in Critical Theory formed to create a highly interdisciplinary research center and a Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory for promising PhD candidates in the humanities and social sciences. Dozens of faculty from diverse disciplines participate in the program, teaching and advising nearly 100 graduate students from departments including Anthropology, Art History, Comparative Literature, Education, English, Ethnic Studies, Film and Media Studies, East Asian Languages, French, Geography, History, Italian Studies, Law, Performance Studies, Political Science, Portuguese and Spanish Studies, Rhetoric, School of Public Health, and Sociology. The Program in Critical Theory also hosts visiting scholars and researchers, provides fellowships and presents numerous public events, conferences, and seminars that are free and open to the public.
